SIGHTSEEING / ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF PATRAS






The new Archaeological Museum of Patras, is located in the northern part of the city. It covers a total surface of 5955 square meters, and includes three big halls for the permanent exhibition, a hall that hosts temporary exhibitions, a modern reception area, a café and a spacious parking area. The exhibits are dating back from the period between 3000 BC and the 4th century AD, are from the city of Patras, as well as from the areas of southern and western Achaia. The exhibition is divided into three major themes. Private life, public life and cemeteries. The most famous of all ancient artifacts, among others, are those that illustrate the Mycenaean and the Roman period, during which the Patras was at its peak. Patras was founded as a colony by Augustus in 14 BC and it played an important role in the history of the Roman Empire, reaching the pinnacle of wealth in the 2nd century AD -- Opening hours: Tuesday - Sunday: 8:30 to 15:00, Monday closed./ Normal ticket: 4 Euro, / Student ticket: 2 euro.
